As a Community Outreach Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in identifying and coordinating outreach events and activities in conjunction with staff. This includes attending fairs, conventions, tabling booths, and networking meetings to connect with the community and communicate the mission and purpose of Sanctuary at Homestead. In addition to representing the organization at events, you may also be responsible for running gaming events or demos as needed.
The position requires strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively present information about Sanctuary at Homestead to various groups. You must present yourself in a professional manner and be able to work independently or with others to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision. Physical demands may include transporting, setting up, and taking down outreach materials, banners, tables, and booths.
The time commitment and location is flexible and dependent upon outreach efforts and events. You must submit an application and/or resume, complete an interview, pass a criminal background check, and prepare a mock outreach presentation before volunteering in the community unsupervised. Access to a computer, email, internet, phone, and reliable transportation is also required.
In return, volunteers have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community and help bring awareness to Sanctuary at Homestead's services and other resources. You will also gain practical experience with networking, communication skills, marketing, and building partnerships. Furthermore, teaching people about food sustainability and gaming can help us bring more people together to play and enjoy the hobby as well as enrich each other’s lives.
